Even If The Word Doesn't Fit, We Insist McCain's "The Maverick"

Jeff Goodby and Rich Silverstein of the San Francisco advertising agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners have produced several spots for the Obama campaign that they reportedly funded. 

In this ad, a McCain operative insists in a meeting with colleagues that their candidate is a "maverick" despite the fact that he voted with Bush 90% of the time, wants tax breaks for millionaires, champions financial deregulation, wants to overturn Roe v. Wade and doesn't know how many houses he owns.

The point is well made: the more one knows about McCain's actual positions, the less the word "maverick" fits him.
