Democrat Jim Martin is competing with Republican Saxby Chambliss in a Georgia Senate race runoff to take place on December 2. Chambliss received a plurality of votes but not a majority. If ever a politician deserved to lose, it's Chambliss.
Chambliss is running negative ads against his opponent that warn, "With unchecked power hanging in the balance, Georgia can't afford another liberal like Jim Martin in Washington."
Actually, America can't afford Saxby Chambliss. Six years ago, as part of his winning campaign against Max Clelland, Chambliss ran ads questioning his opponent's patriotism and accusing him of being soft on Osama bin Laden.
The supposedly "unpatriotic" Clelland is a decorated Vietnam veteran who lost an arm and two legs in that conflict. Clelland gets around in a wheelchair and struggles to get dressed. After his electoral loss in 2002, he underwent treatment for depression. Chambliss never expressed a word of regret for his despicable ads. Ironically, Jim Martin is also a Vietnam veteran.
John McCain recently appeared at a campaign rally for Chambliss. It figures. Both have terrible records on veteran's benefits. Chambliss voted against funding for armored vehicles and guaranteeing troops time at home between deployments, and he voted for tax increases on troops in combat, among more examples of non-support. In short, he has the kind of record you'd expect from someone who treated decorated veteran Clelland in such a disgraceful manner.
Chambliss has long deserved to be thrown out of office. To find out more about Jim Martin, watch the video above and visit Martin for Senate, where you can also make a contribution.
