Representative Michele Bachmann Can't Distinguish Reality From Urban Legend

Republican Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota had a near-death experience in terms of her political career after she told Chris Matthews that Barack Obama "may have anti-American views." Channeling Joseph McCarthy, Bachmann also called on the news media to "do a penetrating expose" into the "views of the people in Congress and find out are they pro-America or anti-America."

Speaking to Alan Colmes on Tuesday night, Bachmann is shown in the video above denying that she made these statements:

Colmes: You said you were concerned during the campaign that Obama had anti-American views and you said the news media should do a penetrating expose and take a look at the views of the people in Congress and find out if they are pro-America or anti-America.

Bachmann: Actually that’s not what I said. It’s an urban legend that was created and that’s not what I said.

Colmes: I have the tape at my website Alan.com.

Bachmann: What I called on, Alan, was for the mainstream media to do their job. They failed to vet Barack Obama the way they had John McCain. That’s what I was calling for.

Let's go to the video tape. Judge for yourself whether Bachmann's statements as cited by Colmes are an "urban legend":
