Born Henry St. Claire Fredericks in 1942, Taj Mahal is a composer and blues master who has assimilated musical traditions from west Africa, the Carribean, Latin America and elsewhere. Above, Taj and his band play a smoking rendition of "Mailbox Blues." I particularly enjoyed the scat singing, percussion, keyboards and guitar chords–I guess all of it!
Switching to the acoustic blues, here Taj Mahal accompanies Corey Harris in a driving version of Robert Johnson's "Sitting On Top Of The World":
