Rotten Rush Discourages Contributions To Haitian Emergency Efforts

Should we be surprised? Rush Limbaugh used the devastation in Haiti to launch a callous attack on President Obama and on emergency relief efforts. Listen:

Limbaugh: “This will play right into Obama’s hands — humanitarian, compassionate. They’ll use this to burnish their, shall we say, credibility with the black community — the both the light-skinned and dark-skinned black community in this country. It’s made to order for them.”

So Limbaugh cynically accuses Obama of cynicism. What does race have to do with it? If an earthquake erupted in Italy during the Bush administration, would Limbaugh accuse "W" of using it to burnish his credibility with the "white community"?

Exposing the rot that festers at his core, Limbaugh also discouraged his listeners from donating to this dire emergency, stating, "We've already donated to Haiti. It's called the U.S. income tax." (Readers are encouraged to ignore Limbaugh and donate to one of the emergency relief providers listed below.)

In response, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs stated, "In times of great crisis, there are always people that say really stupid things. I don't know how anybody could sit where he does, having enjoyed the success that he has, and not feel some measure of sorrow for what has happened in Haiti. I think to use the power of your pulpit to try to convince those not to help their brothers and sisters is sad."

Taken out of context.
If you were to listen to the whole thread you would have heard Rush state if you want to donate donate to a private Haiti relief charity not the Whitehouse run Haiti relief charity.

You libs are so laughable. Everything your say and do is lie. Whole liberal movement is built on a mountain lies.

Actually, you've taken his words out of context. Here's the transcript:

CALLER: Mega Rush Baby dittos. My question is, why did Obama in the sound bite you played earlier, when he's talking about if you wanted to donate some money, you can go to WhiteHouse.gov --
RUSH: Yeah.
CALLER: -- to direct you how to do so. If I want to donate money to the Red Cross, why do I need to go to the WhiteHouse.gov page and --
RUSH: Exactly. Would you trust that the money is going to go to Haiti?
CALLER: No.
RUSH: Would you trust that your name is going to end up on a mailing list for the Obama people to start asking you for campaign donations for him and other causes.
CALLER: Absolutely.
RUSH: Absolutely right.
CALLER: That's the point.
RUSH: Besides, we've already donated to Haiti. It's called the US income tax.

While Limbaugh agreed with a caller that one can contribute to the Red Cross instead of the White House, that is not the same as actually advocating donating to the Red Cross for Haiti. Utimately, Limbaugh advocated not donating since "we've already donated to Haiti" through our taxes.

I suppose that conservatives such as Joe Scarborough, who said about Limbaugh, "the words are deplorable," and Pat Buchanan, who said, "they're deeply insensitive," are also lying.
