The Sarah Palin Battle Hymn

"The Sarah Palin Battle Hymn" proclaims, “She’s not a Harvard lawyer, but she knew what the founders meant,” in reference to Palin’s statement about Obama: “We need a commander-in-chief, not a professor of law standing at the lectern.” Of course, many of the founding fathers knew what they meant due to their background as lawyers. Regardless, this singing duo figures that Palin knows just enough law to “throw ‘em all in jail.”

Did she really say we need a commander-in-chief not a professor? To me that speaks volumes as to the mind-set of the tea party right wing. The military gets whatever it wants while improving the lives of average citizens takes a back seat. Even a general such as Eisenhower knew that our system puts the military subserviant to civilians. Being commander-in-chief is an important part of being president; but it is not the only part. Besides, the founding fathers made sure that the commander-in-chief is a civilian and not a soldier. What we need in the White House is an intelligent, well-educated person who understands the responsibilities of being commander-in-chief. What we don't need is Sarah Palin.

I completely agree with you. Palin did say that, and it also speaks to an anti-intellectual attitude. I'd rather have someone in office who is well educated–someone who went to Harvard law, for example.
