Grisanti eloquently explained, “I cannot deny a person, a human being, a taxpayer, a worker, the people of my district and across this state, the State of New York, and those people who make this the great state that it is the same rights that I have with my wife.”
My sentiments exactly. As New Yorkers, my wife and I neither requested nor welcomed any self-proclaimed “defenders” of marriage. In fact, we resented the presumption that our marriage, which is our personal business, needed “defending” or that the “defense” comes through discrimination against gay friends and neighbors. Now, the day after same-sex marriage was approved, life goes on, regardless of the alarmists. The only difference is the pride we feel in our state and the satisfaction we have knowing that gay New Yorkers now enjoy the same legal rights that we do. May this movement continue until marriage equality is the law of the land.
