Santorum Would Criminalize Doctors Providing Abortions To Rape And Incest Victims

Speaking to David Gregory on "Meet The Press," Republican presidential hopeful and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum stated that he would ban abortion even following rape and incest and prosecute doctors who provide abortions under those circumstances. Watch:

Gregory: Do you believe that there should be any legal exceptions for rape or incest when it comes to abortion?

Santorum: I believe that life begins at conception, and that that life should be guaranteed under the Constitution. That is a person.

Gregory: So even in the case of rape or incest, that would be taking a life?

Santorum: That would be taking a life, and I believe that any doctor that performs an abortion, I would advocate that any doctor that performs an abortion, should be criminally charged for doing so.

Santorum's position is the only consitent one for those who call themselves pro-life and I applaud him for it. Those who make exceptions for rape and incest are only want to punish women for wanting to engage in intercourse. If sex was consentual you must keep the child; but if it was forced upon you you can abort. Santorum is correct: a life is a life - how a child was conceived is immaterial. If you oppose abortion the only legitimate exception is when the life of the mother is at state. When you add rape and incest to the list of exceptions you are a hypocrite - pure and simple. However, I take the opposite position completely; I am pro choice.
