Lucien Freud (left), grandson of Sigmund Freud and a major, groundbreaking portrait painter, passed away at 88 in his London home last Wednesday. To say that Freud was a realist is an understatement; he depicted friends and family with a directness that could be brutal, taking in their physical flaws and psychological vulnerabilities.
