Saturday Night At The Liberal Curmudgeon: The Lovin’ Spoonful’s “Summer In The City”

The Lovin’ Spoonful performed–or lip-synced–“Summer In The City” in 1966. As John Sebastian sings, “All around, people looking half-dead/Walking on the sidewalk hotter than a matchhead,” I especially think of Friday’s 103 degrees in New York, made all the steamier by concrete sidewalks and heat-trapping buildings.

I ponderred playing this song on Friday's show, but I chose Santana's "Smooth" instead.

We'll have more hot days in August, giving you another opportunity to play it.
