TP: Republicans Move From Disdain To “Understanding” Protestors

Think Progress has produced a video showing how Mitt Romney, Eric Cantor, Rick Santorum and Herman Cain have moved from denigration of the Occupy movement to “understanding their motivation.” They've changed their tunes–sometimes within the same day–as polls reflect support for the movement. I think the Occupy Wall Street grew to a size that was far greater than anyone, even themselves, expected. But it may last longer than the "mainstream" public wants to tolerate. It is my opinion that they should begin to focus, not on protesting, but on organizing to a degree we see with the Tea Party. I don't think they will be able to accomplish much while the rest of us, supporters and opposition, play a game of endurance. It's time for a 99 Party with "99" candidates to represent us at all levels of government. Only then will they be to effict important changes. For now, they have made their point - especially when we see Romney, Cantor and Cain showing their "fear".

Michael: We don't know where this movement will lead in terms of political change. We didn't know where the anti-war and civil rights movements in the 60s would lead either, and they did effect change. How long they last is not up to the public, it's up to the demonstrators. Regarding a third party, I see little hope for it as long as private money, not public financing, runs our electoral system.
