Remembering Etta James (1938-2012)

The versatile Etta James, who passed away on Friday, brought her tremendous vocal range and emotional power to rhythm and blues, jazz and pop. Above, she performed her signature song, “At Last.” BeyoncĂ© portrayed her and sang the song in the movie “Cadillac Records,” reviewed here. To hear a tribute to Etta James comprising 11 songs, listen to the second half of the January 20th edition of St. James Infirmary, hosted by my good friend Dr. Michael Mand.

Thanks for the plug - I need all the help I can get. Etta has been a mainstay on St. James Infirmary for the entire two-year run of the show. I never did get to see her perform, so for now..."all I could do [is] cry". As I said somewhere, anybody who sings blues or rhythm and blues today owes something to EJ.
