Saturday Night At The Liberal Curmudgeon: Dr. John Live

Dr. John, New Orleans piano master and songwriter, begins a three-week series of nine concerts this weekend at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. In celebration, let's listen to his renditions of the jazz standard "I'm Confessin' (That I Love You)" and, appropriately, given his current venue, "New York City Blues." The performance took  in 1996 or 1997 on French TV; one could also imagine it taking place in one of the Greenwich Village clubs he sings about in the latter song.

Perhaps you can join me in the campaign to bring this man's music to the attention of a wider audience. To paraphrase the words of Colonel Sherman T. Potter: there aren't enough 'o's in 'smooooooooth' to describe teh music of Dr. John. For those who are not familiar, I'd suggest a crash course...and there's plenty of material to choose from. Thanks for the reminder.
