Robert Reich: Public Vs. Private Morality

In the video below, Robert Reich offers a valuable corrective on conservative values: “Some politicians have morality upside down. …America’s problem is not a breakdown in private morality; it’s a breakdown in public morality. What Americans do in their bedrooms is their own business. But what corporate executives and Wall Street financiers have been doing in boardrooms and executive suites affects all of us.” Reich reviews the current political and financial corruption associated with Wall Street and major corporations, as well as the historic responses to such excesses that resulted in anti-trust laws, labor protections and bank regulations. He calls upon us to “condemn the abuses of economic power and privilege that characterize this new gilded age and base a new era of reform on public morality and common sense.” Reich is apparently also a talented cartoonist.
