clear enough already, Mitt Romney's choice of Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) as running mate throws the election into stark relief. Ryan is the author of a voucher plan that would destroy Medicare and drive up health care costs. At the same time, he would use the funds saved to reduce the top tax rate from 35% to 25%, rendering fraudulent his claim to be a "deficit hawk."
Romney, of course, endorsed Ryan's cruel budgetary proposals months ago; in addition to Medicare, Ryan would cut food stamps, housing assistance, job training and Pell Grants. Is it any surprise that Romney, Mr. One Percent, endorses Ryan's Robin-Hood-in-reverse vision? Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) clearly spoke about what the choice of Ryan means:
"The selection of Rep. Paul Ryan as Romney's choice for vice president makes it very clear that the Republican Party has completely caved in to the extreme right-wing Tea Party. Ryan, the author of the Republican House budget, would make devastating cuts in Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and education while giving even more tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires. The Romney-Ryan ticket is waging war against the middle class and must be defeated."
