Saturday Night At The Liberal Curmudgeon: Harrison Covers Dylan

George Harrison covered Bob Dylan's "If Not For You" and "Absolutely Sweet Marie" at Madison Square Garden, October 16, 1992. The performance was part of "Bobfest," a term coined by Neil Young for this celebration of Dylan's 30th anniversary as a recording artist. In my view, Harrison's rendition of "Absolutely Sweet Marie" (4:26) is particularly outstanding. The song is on Dylan's classic "Blonde On Blonde" album from 1966 (a retake of another song, “Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I’ll Go Mine),” from the same album was shown here in January 2011). The video also includes Dylan, Harrison, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Eric Clapton and Roger McGuinn singing "My Back Pages."

I generally don't go for these "festival" type of concerts. 'Bobfest" as well as 'The Concert for Bangla Desh' are shining exceptions. It seems these two concerts have some performers in common.

Alas, they'll never have George again.
