Santorum: "We Will Never Have The Elite, Smart People On Our Side"

Speaking at the Values Voters Summit in Washington, DC, Rick Santorum said that conservatives will never have the media or "elite, smart people" on its side "because they believe they should have the power to tell you what to do." That's an ironic comment from someone who wants to invalidate gay marriages and prosecute doctors who perform abortions on rape and incest victims. Santorum, who made disparaging comments about higher education during his presidential run, also said that "colleges and universities" will not support the conservative movement, which can only depend on "the church and the family." Considering the source, I am not surprised.

True, not a shocker.

Good to know, he is neither smart or elite.

Taking his point that elite smart people tell you what to do, what precisely does he think the religious elements in his party are seeking to do to women? Either the man is of limited intelligence or his ability to double think would have made him a great Orwellian operator in 1984.

Excellent point, Richard. With their views on gays and women, the religious right is at the forefront in terms of telling people what to do in their personal lives--all the while insisting that they're for "small government."

When republicans speak of smaller government, they refer only to regulations that they believe retard business growth. Legislating what they think, should be my personal behavior, is quite a different matter - and they don't just target women. I resent that party's attempts at dictating my morality as if it has some lesser value than theirs.

Actually, they don't differentiate in their rhetoric between business and personal life when they speak about "small government." It's only when they make proposals that they reveal their hypocrisy.
