Former NRA President Equates Banning Assault Weapons With Racism

On the NRA News show, past NRA president Marion Hammer resorts to the organization's nonsensical rhetoric that regulating guns is the same as confiscating all of them. In addition, Hammer states that gun control is not prompted by public safety brought to light by horrific massacres like Sandy Hook, but is instead a government conspiracy to "control the masses." Most absurdly, she equates banning assault weapons with racism. Listen:

HOST: And they even admit this is about banning the ugliest guns. It's about cosmetics. It has nothing to do about how a firearm works.

HAMMER: Well, you know, banning people and things because of the way they look went out a long time ago, but here they are again. The color of a gun, the way it looks. It’s just bad politics.
