Rep. Grayson: GOP's Holding Debt Ceiling Hostage Is “Legislative Terrorism”

Al Sharpton introduces Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) with clips showing why every liberal should be pleased that this outspoken public servant is back in Congress. He follows with past clips from Republicans rightly stating that not raising the debt ceiling would be economically catastrophic. Regarding the GOP's changed position, Grayson comments that the Republicans are once again threatening to use “legislative terrorism” to cut Social Security, Medicare and unemployment insurance. Someone needs to explain to me why we need to go through this process at all. As you pointed out in a personal conversation, we've already borrowed and spent this money. It seems to be an excercise in the obvious that has deteriorated into a gratuitous political boxing match in which there are no winners. In other words, why do we need a debt ceiling at all?

We don't. How is it called for to formally agree to pay debts already incurred?
