Heroic Wendy Davis Stands Up For Reproductive Rights

Under grueling conditions–no sitting, eating, drinking, using the restroom–Sen. Wendy Davis (D-TX) stood in the Texas Capitol and filibustered the Republicans' draconian SB5 anti-abortion bill. The bill did not pass; Davis was assisted by Sen. Leticia Van De Putte (D-TX) and cheering supporters. Gov. Rick Perry has called for another special session, and the bill will most likely be approved. In addition, thanks to the Supreme Court's gutting the Voting Rights Act, Texas is ready to redistrict-i.e., gerrymander–without oversight, putting Davis' Senate seat in danger. Regardless, Davis bravely stood up against one more Republican attempt to legislate away women's reproductive rights and galvanized supporters in Texas and across the nation.
